Details of Promoters

The Director, Prof. K.M. Khanna is the chief advisor of this project. He graduated with First Class Honours in B.Sc. Physics from Punjab University, India. He was the top student and was awarded Punjab University Medal. He was inscribed in the Roll of Honours of the University for standing first in the University. He obtained M.Sc. Honours with first class, and Ph.D degree in Physics from I.I.T KHARAGPUR. After obtaining PhD, he worked as Teaching Assistant at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana State U.S.A for one year between 1958-1959. Prof. Khanna then worked as Teaching fellow at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada for two years during 1959-1961. He returned to India in 1961 and joined as Pool Officer in the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) India. In January 1962, he was appointed Lecture in Physics of the most prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India. In May 1967, he was appointed Professor and Head of Department of Physics, Dibrugarb University, Dibrugarb, Assam, India. In June 1972, he was appointed Professor of Applied Physics and Head, Birla Institute of Technology, RANCHI – India. He played a major role in setting up and establishing BIT Ranchi. In September 1976, he was appointed Professor and Head, Department of Materials Science, National Institute of Foundary and Forge Technology, RANCHI – India. During his stay at the Institute, he was appointed UNESCO expert in physics from January 1987 to June 1989. After visiting UNESCO headquarters in Paris – France, he was assigned to the University of Swaziland, Swaziland. In Feburary 1995, he was appointed Professor of Physics at Moi University, Eldoret, Kenya. Professor Khanna has done extensive research and published in the following fields:

  • Nuclear Physics
  • Liquid Helium and Bose-Einstein Condensation
  • Materials science and Non-Destructive Testing
  • Superconductivity

He is an authority in the above areas and has so far published 105 research papers in refereed journals of International repute. Prof. Khanna has so far supervised 21 PhD students; 16 in India, and 5 in Kenya. The number of M.Sc and M. Phill students who have benefited from his guidance is quite large. He has published 3 advance books on physics. He was an associate member of the ABDUS Salam International Center for theoretical Physics, Trieste Italy from 1972-1986, and advisor from 1987-1992. He is on the Editorial Boards of a number of Physics Journals, Cryogenics and Defense. His experience of setting up reputed college like Birla Institute of Technology (Ranchi) will be a huge assert for both students and College.


Prof. P.K Baharai who did his Ph.D. from Ranchi University and currently working as a Vice Chancellor at Birla Institute of Technology Ranchi, will be the member of the Advisory Committee.


The Chairman, Mrs. Sangeeta Katyal is BA Hons in Political Science and has more than 20 years of experience in managing educational institutions. She is renowned academician and philanthropist.


The Treasurer, Mr. Prikshit Katyal graduated with First Class in Telecommunication Engineering from Rashtriya Vidalya College of Engineering (RVCE) Bangalore, Head the Trust. He has worked with a software firm Cognizant Technology Solutions (Bangalore) and now has an objective of setting up an institution with highest levels of excellence in the field of technical education.


The Additional Treasurer of the Trust, Mr. Sanjay Bhagat is a post graduate engineer by profession from NIT, Kurukshetra. He has over 15 years of experience and remained associated with companies like Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys Technologies and HCL Technologies. He is visiting faculty to various engineering collages and management institutes. He was visiting faculty to Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM, Lucknow) for 4 years. He has written 2 white papers on Software development Techniques. He was one of the key members involved in the set up of Training Center of Infosys Mysore.


The General Secretary, Mr. Gaurav Katyal is Electronics and Communication Engineer and after graduating he has been actively involved in guiding and implementing day to day activities of the Trust.


The Additional General Secretary of the Trust, Mrs. Shruti Bhagat is Doctorate in Music and remained associated with various corporate. She has run the corporate Training Program of Reliance industries for one year. She is renowned academician and philanthropist.


The Additional Chairman of the Trust, Mrs Darshana Dhingra is Postgraduate and has over 30 year of experience in Teaching. Before retiring from the Government Job as lecture she, was teaching political Science in school. After retirement also, she is involved with various orphanage and schools to give education to poor people of the society.
